The Home of Children Providence is a non- 
 
profit organization. The orphanage began March  
 
1995, during the financial stresses of the  
 
countrywide embargo. It was a time of great  
 
suffering for children, being exploited and not  
 
able to attend school. There was much disease  
 
and delinquency among children. In response to  
 
the situation, Michaëlle Thomas and Gerta Pierre  
 
felt it necessary to start a home for street children.
